Reading Champions 2025

Great success in the English reading competition for grades 5-8

While the younger pupils were still a little nervous at first, the older participants were noticeably but joyfully tense. Everyone was highly motivated.

The judging was based on fixed criteria: Volume, tempo, pronunciation, flawless rendition and, above all, good intonation played a decisive role. The jury was particularly impressed by the reading performance of the very young participants, who already read so fluently and with amazingly good intonation.

Ms. Nolte, a member of the English student council and a long-standing jury member alongside Ms. Holthaus, praised the impressive entries: "You read so well, with so much expression and emotion, so authentic, so English!" The English teachers were actively and competently supported on the jury by students from Years 10 and EF. Many thanks to Sherin Shamon, Elaine Yousuf (Year 5 and 6), Hannah Hirtzbruch and Jette Wermert (Year 7 and 8).

The jury: Ms. Holthaus, Ms. Nolte, Elaine Yousuf, Sherin Shamon.

There was great joy when the winners received their prizes: The Reading Champion mugs and English books for the runners-up were very well received.

The English reading competition once again showed how much enthusiasm and feeling for language our students have. A highlight and a great way to end the 2024/25 school year from the perspective of the English department.

Congratulations!
