Our school

History

The Bernhard-Overberg-Schule is one of three elementary school in the Gronau district of Epe. It is a Catholic denominational school.

Our school is named after Bernhard Overberg, who had a decisive influence on the school system in the diocese of Münster more than 200 years ago and already at that time saw the "whole person" in education.

The foundation stone was laid in 1953. Teaching began as an elementary school in 1955. On August 1, 1969, the school became a two-form entry elementary school as a result of the reorganization of the primary school system.

The "Förderverein der Bernhard-Overberg-Schule zu Gronau-Epe e.V." was founded in 1987 on the initiative of parents.

In the 1996/97 school year, the parents' initiative "Schülerbetreuung Bernhard-Overberg-Schule Gronau e.V." (after-school care) was founded.

On February 27, 2008, the Gronau City Council decided to convert the Bernhard-Overberg School into an open all-day school, thereby approving the request of the school conference on February 14, 2007.

After the school had three or even four classes in the meantime, we currently have two classes in almost all year groups. In the 2023/2024 school year, the second year will have three classes.
