Toboggan singing in the Agatha Church

Despite the weather, we walked to Agatha Church today with the whole school community and sang Christmas carols together with lots of other children.

Kulturstrolche project - Jewish children in Epe

After learning a lot about Judaism at the beginning of the week, we went to the Galerie van Almsick today, where we were joined by Heinz Krabbe and Rudolf Nacke. This time it was about Jewish families and their children who lived in Epe at the time and were expelled and persecuted by the Nazis during the Second World War. Mr. Nacke knew a lot about it. After the introduction, half of the class went in search of stumbling stones in Epe town center. Stolpersteine are memorial stones that commemorate the victims of the persecution of the Jews and can be found in front of the families' former homes. Meanwhile, the other half of the class worked with Mr. Krabbe to design flat memorial stones with acrylic pens in the gallery's creative room. The groups were then swapped.

We were all very touched by this campaign.

The Kulturstrolche project - Jewish festivals and objects

As part of the Kulturstrolche program, Heinz Krabbe, the first chairman of the Freundeskreis Alte Synagoge Epe, came to our class with a large suitcase filled with lots of different things about Jews.

In two lessons, we learned about some Jewish holidays and many typical objects such as the shofar (horn), kippah (religious headgear), Torah (Jewish holy scripture) and yad (index finger). The great thing was that we were able to touch all the objects and try some of them out. Mr. Krabbe also brought matzo, apples with honey and kosher gummy bears so that we could understand the topic with all our senses. We learned some Hebrew letters and finally played with the dreidel, a Hebrew spinning top, in small groups.

Team advent calendar of the 4b

This year, all the children are preparing an Advent surprise for the whole class. We've already done puzzles, played Uno and made a Christmas tree. Let's see what other nice things we can make.

Craft day in the 4b class

This year's craft day took place on Friday, 29.11.2024. All classes spent 4 hours cutting, gluing and crafting to decorate the classrooms and corridors for Christmas.

Dental health campaign

In the week from 18-22.11.2024, our school once again took part in the dental health campaign. As part of the subject lessons, all classes dealt extensively with the topic of "dental health". In addition to the KAI brushing method, we learned a lot about teeth and the functions of individual teeth. We were able to try out lots of practical things at all the stations. As we are now in our fourth year, we were allowed to make our own toothpaste and take it home with us.

We make toothpaste.

Cycling test on 7.10.2024

Over the past few weeks, we have practiced a lot for the cycling test. After the police had given a few more tips and advice, all fourth graders set off for their cycling test. After a round trip with 15 stations, everyone arrived back at school safely. Congratulations on passing the test!

Play "My body belongs to me"

Building on the play "Nein-Tonne", the theater pedagogical workshop came back to our class. Small scenes were used to express feelings of yes and no. "What can I do as a child if someone crosses my physical boundaries?" and "How do I defend myself against sexual violence?" were two important questions that were answered. It became clear that in cases of sexual violence, the perpetrator is always to blame.

The children should be empowered to prevent dangerous situations and learn to get help when they need it. The children were given three questions to answer:

  1. Do I have a yes or a no feeling?
  2. Does anyone know where I am?
  3. Can I get help if I need it?

Despite the difficult topic, the children were eager to participate thanks to the great actors, the catchy song "My body..." and the age-appropriate play scenes.

Lighthouses

In art class, we used empty potato chips tins, jam jars, flower pots and various decorations to make fantastic lighthouses that can even really light up with an electric tea light.

We were on a school trip in Haltern

From Wednesday to Friday, the fourth graders were on a class trip to Haltern am See.

Swimming pool pictures

In art class, we have been studying the famous British painter David Hockney. He often painted people in swimming pools and is a keen swimmer himself.
